York Habitat for Humanity is excited to recognize Stephen Debelius as April’s Volunteer in the Spotlight. Debelius, a retired Mechanical Engineer, is a huge asset on Habitat’s East Prospect Street build site as one of our regular committed construction volunteers.
“Housing is a basic human need. Providing a nice home is a great way to improve the lives of the future residents,” says Debelius. “It’s exciting to know that this work will play a role in positively enriching the lives of the children as well.” York Habitat for Humanity is grateful for the continuous donation of Stephen’s time and talent. Because of Stephen, and all of the Habitat volunteers, the East Prospect site will become homes for two qualified York County families.

We are looking for a few good Mentors to help partner with our families in making a successful transition from renters to homeowners. Ideally, a mentor will work with the family on a monthly basis from the time they sign the Habitat agreements until a year after closing on their Habitat home. This is truly a great way to give a hand up! If interested, contact Terri Abruzzese, Family Services Manager at 717-864-6168 Ext. 104 or at terri@yorkhabitat.org.
We had such an amazing turn out at our first Faith Builders Breakfast. Thank you to those who attended and to all who were unable to make it but have committed to partnering with us! We are thrilled to begin this journey with you to put God's love into action.
If you would you like information to share with your church on how they can be involved please contact Athena White at athena@yorkhabitat.org for more information!
York Habitat for Humanity has announced that the organization’s 16th annual 5K run/walk fundraiser will be held Saturday, June 22, 2019. This year’s event, once again tabbed “I Survived the Hills for Habitat 5K,” will take place in Dover, PA using the popular rolling course which starts and ends on Allen Lane in Dover Borough. Registration begins at 7:00 AM and the run/walk starts at 8:30 AM on race day.
York Habitat has selected Dover to be able to showcase the many Habitat homes which have been built there over the years. Besides the City of York, York Habitat has constructed more homes in Dover than in any other York County community. “This really is a wonderful opportunity for folks with a common interest, to come out, run and walk to be healthy, all while helping create first-time home owner families all over York County,” said York Habitat’s Associate Director Mark Mattern. “Dover Borough and Dover Township continue to support this event to the highest level, helping make it a success year after year.” Over the years, more than 1,750 runners and walkers have taken part in the York Habitat event which starts and ends in a Habitat for Humanity neighborhood. Funds raised go directly to York Habitat for Humanity to provide low-income York County residents with the opportunity to purchase a safe, decent, affordable home. On the running side, prizes will be awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers in eight different age categories. The top overall male and female runners will also receive special recognition. Donated snacks and drinks will be available at the race site. Registration for the event is OPEN right now on the York Habitat for Humanity web site at www.yorkhabitat.org. All levels of sponsorships are still available for this year’s event. Anyone wishing to donate an item to the event is encouraged to get in touch with the York Habitat office. For questions and more information, contact Mark Mattern at 717-756-6559 or mark@yorkhabitat.org.
