In Uganda, it only costs $1,800 to build a Habitat home. Of course, this
is because the average size of a full home is 400 square feet and includes four rooms. There is no electricity or other
utilities, though there is a separate shower and bathroom facility built with the home.
Compared to homes
built in the United States, these homes are very basic. But compared to other dwellings in Uganda, a Habitat home is
a life-changing blessing -- in much the same way York Habitat for Humanity's homes change the lives of families in York.
The Building of Faith project hopes to raise $80,000 in 2008. $7,500 of the total raised will go directly
to our sister affiliate in Uganda to build homes. While the churches and faith communities are building a home here
in York, they are also helping to build four homes in Uganda and allowing families to move from thatched shelters into
decent housing.
