York Habitat for Humanity (YHFH), established in 1985, is a faith-based
housing ministry providing simple, decent, affordable homeownership to people living in substandard housing. York Habitat
for Humanity is one of 1,500 affiliates of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) in the United States. HFHI is actively
providing simple, decent, affordable housing in 93 countries. Through generous monetary donations from the community; material donations from suppliers; donated
products and services from the skilled trades; and thousands of volunteer hours every year from people in the community, Habitat
is able to construct and rehab homes inexpensively, making them affordable to people earning 35-60% of the average York County
income. Habitat sells homes to qualified candidates with no profit added, via no-interest 30 year mortgages held, and managed
by the non-profit ensuring that monthly mortgage payments are never more than 30% of the household income. Homeowner candidates receive comprehensive financial
training, credit counseling, first-time homebuyer classes, homeowner education, and personal mentoring. As a result, York
Habitat for Humanity has a stellar foreclosure history of only 1%.
York Habitat for Humanity would also like to congratulate Dawn
Carnegie and Stephen Morgan, who will be toasting to Habitat for Humanity at their upcoming wedding. Additionally, Habitat
would like to thank Dawn, Stephen and their guests for their generous donation of new and used tools.
