Habitat for Humanity's 2010 Build Plans Include YOU!
CANCER SURVIVORS BUILD: A steering committee for this four-home
build is now forming to recruit potential homeowners and volunteers, and to plan events, publicity efforts,
and fund raisers around the theme of "hope and a future after the diagnosis of cancer." Groundbreaking for the West
Princess Street homes will be in March 2010 and construction will begin shortly thereafter. Volunteer scheduling will begin
in late February. All are invited to participate in this very important build, but those impacted by cancer are especially
encouraged to apply for homes, volunteer time and talents, and share stories that may bring encouragement and
hope to others.
FIRE SAFETY BUILD: A steering committee for this four-home
build on East Poplar Street is also forming at this time. This build will involve the demolition of four row homes damaged
by fire in January 2009 when a match lit by an unsupervised minor sparked flames in a 3rd floor bedroom. The build's
theme will draw attention to the importance of installing sprinkler systems in residential settings, fire prevention, and
recognition of the dedicated firefighters, emergency personnel, and community outreach organizations who provide life-giving
services when fires occur. Groundbreaking for this build will be in April 2010 and volunteers will be scheduled starting
in March. All are invited to participate in this build, but emergency personnel, insurance companies, fire prevention &
restoration businesses & organizations are especially encouraged to play a role in this build.
