3/28/2018

York Habitat for Humanity has announced that the organization is seeking a new full time site supervisor.  A Habitat site supervisor is the staff member who works on a build site, overseeing the operation and the volunteer labor.  This position would report directly to Construction Manager George Myers.
“This position requires someone with a strong construction background and will be able to train and direct construction volunteers,” said Myers. “Since almost all of the construction on York Habitat homes is handled by volunteers, this is a very important position in our organization.  Our site supervisor is our most visible and consistent point of contact with the community.”
A Habitat site supervisor, along with a background in construction, must be able to work with and teach volunteers, all while working within accordance to York Habitat for Humanity plans, specifications and quality requirements.
To apply for this position; go to Indeed.com and use
York Habitat Site Supervisor, York PA in search.
York Habitat for Humanity has completed 125 new homes in York County and each of those builds required thousands of hours of volunteer labor.  Currently, Habitat has two projects underway with a duplex project on West Locust Street reaching its final stages.
For more information on the position and on how to apply, stop by the York Habitat for Humanity website at www.yorkhabitat.org.

York Habitat kicks off its Partnership with U-Stor-It

York Habitat for Humanity is pleased to announce a new partnership with U-Stor-It Self Storage located at 1331 N. Sherman Street in York.  U-Stor-It has agreed to donate three storage units at their facility for use by York Habitat for Humanity. These units, valued at $4,200 per year will be used by York Habitat to store donated furniture and other household goods.
By securing this space with U-Stor-It, York Habitat will be able to accept many generous donations that they were not accepting in the past.  These items will be used to help build Habitat partner family homes whenever possible.
“Every day, we get calls from many York County residents wanting to donate items to York Habitat in anticipation of opening a ReStore in 2018. They know that by selling gently used household and building items, we can increase our ability to build or rehab homes for low-income families. These residents have confidence in our mission because they know Habitat sells the homes at an affordable cost, and gives nothing away,” said Habitat’s Executive Director Tammi Morris.
“In the recent past we had to turn down these items because we did not have the space.  That is not the case anymore thanks to U-Stor-It.  One of the units will be used to assist families with storage needs before they move into their Habitat home.”
U-Stor-It Self Storage caters to different types of storage customers including residential, commercial, student and military tenants, to name a few. The self-storage business offers various size and types of storage units that will always fit a customer’s space and financial needs.  Other features include secure units, temperature control, 24-hour drive-up access and boxes and supplies.  More information is available by visiting:

York Habitat Sets New Record for Cars for Homes Program

3/28/2018

York Habitat for Humanity has announced a new record for the local affiliate’s participation in the Cars for Homes Program.  In statistics just announced by Habitat for Humanity International, York Habitat had more vehicles donated for the quarter ending in September than ever before.  Over that time frame, 10 vehicles were donated to benefit York Habitat.
York Habitat for Humanity is just one of 419 Habitat affiliates sharing in what is an all-time record for funds delivered for a quarter by the Cars for Homes Program.  The affiliates will receive more than $670,000 from Habitat International up from the previous record by $155,000.  That means a record was set in two straight quarters for the car donation program.
“We are so excited to be a part of this program and excited to see a new record for York Habitat for Humanity,” said Habitat’s Associate Director Mark Mattern.  “We would like to see everyone in York County check out this program and if they think Habitat may help them to get rid of an old vehicle of any kind, make the call.  It really is a win, win, win situation in that the donor removes an unwanted vehicle, the donor gets a tax break and our affiliate gets a donation.
And no, the vehicle does not have to run!”
York Habitat for Humanity will receive close to $2,000 for the donations this quarter and Mattern points out that that total will increase rapidly when more and more donors get involved.
For more information on the program potential donors can call 877-277-4344 or stop by the Cars for Homes web site at carsforhomes.org.
