Our Volunteer Services Manager, Natasha and her husband Jay are expecting a baby in November and we are so excited for them. They've decided that Natasha will stay home with baby K, and not return to work, so that means we will have a need for a new Volunteer Services Manager. This position is full time and is responsible for all aspects of Habitat volunteer, recruitment, scheduling, care and support. The job is a demanding one and super busy but perfect for the right candidate. Typical Schedule is Tues-Saturday twice a month and Monday-Friday twice a month. Volunteer Services Manager
Reports To: Associate Director and Executive Director
Employment Status: Full time - Salaried
Supervises: Volunteers
THE ORGANIZATION: York Habitat for Humanity, Inc. (YHFH) is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity, International; an ecumenical, Christian housing ministry.
JOB PURPOSE: Volunteer services include community outreach efforts, coordination, relationship building and strengthening, reporting and program development. These listed duties are all to help further the mission of York Habitat for Humanity as a faith-based housing ministry to provide safe, decent, affordable homeownership to eligible York County residents living in substandard housing. Your role as VC is imperative to our mission!
Volunteer Outreach, Recruitment and Communication
• Develop and maintain an updated list of volunteer "help wanted ads" and distribute strategically on an on-going basis to recruit specific volunteer talent. Post volunteer needs on various websites, social media outlets and public locations utilizing any meaningful avenue for volunteer recruitment.
• Respond promptly (within 24 hours M-F) to contacts inquiring about (non-construction) volunteering via phone or web surveys. When needed, meet with individuals to help them discover the right place for them to serve as Habitat volunteers.
• Follow up with new volunteers (both construction and non-construction) to ensure they've gotten connected with the organization and encourage future involvement. Greet and thank all new volunteers and make sure they receive a proper Thank You. Ask them about their experiences on the job site, event or office. For repeat volunteers, cultivate the relationship to ensure meaningful engagement is occurring and growing.
• Prepare and provide volunteer information materials, goody bags and supplies to all volunteers.
• Responsible for managing volunteer scheduling for construction and non-construction volunteers through utilization of GiveEffect system including assuring that construction volunteers have completed required paperwork and safety procedures.
• Assure that all volunteer hours are recorded for both construction and non-construction volunteers, with credit of hours going into correct build for reporting purposes.
• Make regular public workday construction site visits to greet volunteers, share Habitat message, take pictures, get feedback and cultivate strong relationships that ideally continue beyond build days.
• Assist with volunteer recognition activities and events including quarterly thank you picnic for the "Swinging Seniors.
• Assist coordinating the volunteers' efforts on various project teams and assist in coordinating their efforts.
• Promote involvement with corporations, churches, civic groups, high schools and colleges including York College Habitat for Humanity Club to maximize support and involvement. Conduct presentations to promote the Habitat program
Coordinate Overnight Work Camps & Collegiate Challenge Groups
• Work to coordinate all overnight work camps (local and overnight college and high school students, scouting and church groups).
• Maintain Habitat's host status for Collegiate Challenge through HFHI and coordinate all Collegiate Challenge workgroups (as described above for overnight workcamps.)
Screen and Enroll Community Service Volunteers
Provide Leadership and Oversight to National Women Build Week and Volunteer Services Committee
Office Volunteers Supervision
• Assist with arranging and supervising office volunteers for phone coverage and to complete basic office tasks. Contact direct mail volunteers as necessary. Ensure that all office volunteers use volunteer tracking form.
General
• Assist the Executive Director and Associate Director with grant making applications by providing reports of volunteer numbers.
• Identify special programs and alliances that promote Habitat's mission of providing affordable housing, revitalizing communities, and uplifting families.
• Submit biweekly timecard along with mileage/expense report.
• Develop and produce monthly progress reports for the Executive Director that quantifies progress toward goals based on goals established in the Strategic Plan/Implementation log.
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Associates Degree in management or social services preferred, but a combination of education and experience is acceptable. Must possess outstanding organizational skills, and attention to detail, requires a great deal of computer work, and work closely with people from diverse backgrounds. Experience in customer service or social services are preferred, excellent interpersonal communication skills and regular interaction with the public (people from all socio-economic backgrounds) and frequent public speaking.
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and committed to the mission and foundational principles of Habitat for Humanity. They will be outgoing, friendly, and diplomatic; comfortable working with people from diverse cultures and socio-economic backgrounds; able to work independently and to maintain confidentiality
Machines, Equipment, and Specialized Tools Appropriate to Function Include: Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation, computer skills a must (including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook), using search engines for research, and ability to use general office equipment.
Work Environment: This position requires a heavy volume of local commuting to/from events, meetings, jobsites, office, and other venues. "Business Casual" attire will be the norm, but professional dress will be required at community events and high level meetings. An office will be provided. Some evening & weekend hours required.
