York Habitat for Humanity is excited to introduce Robin Shearer as the organization’s November Volunteer in the Spotlight. Robin first learned about York Habitat’s existence through a Women Build Week flyer she saw at a local Lowe’s store.
“I was pleased to find out that the local entity of this nationally known organization was active in our community,” Shearer said recently. “I think affordable housing is one of the foundational elements in our society today. Young families are able to improve their situation through the homes that York Habitat provides. A stable home location supports educational success as well as general health and wellness.”
Robin also believes that the sense of accomplishment gained by the new homeowners promotes self-esteem and self-worth.
Besides volunteering on York Habitat build sites, Robin also serves on Habitat’s Volunteer Services and Women Build Committees. Shearer uses her skills and experiences from past mission trips, along with work from her own non-profit organization, to help each of these committees excel.
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock." Matthew 7:24-25
